The Environmental Futures & Big Data Impact Lab is a £6.4m partnership of seven Devon-based, world class organisations, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.The partnership consists of the University of Exeter, Exeter City Futures, the Met Office, Plymouth College of Art, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, the University of Plymouth and Rothamsted Research.We offer free support to businesses looking to capitalise on Big Data and Environmental opportunities and create new products and services. We also help academics and scientists to commercialise their expertise.Our objective is to boost inward investment and productivity-led growth by positioning Devon as a national and international centre for Environmental and Big Data analytics. We do this by bringing together the area's world-class research & development assets and data, within a business-focused innovation ecosystem; providing support and facilitating the development of new products and services.

Join us for a business-focused online event, run by Dr Julian Stander from the University of Plymouth’s Centre for Mathematics.

Join us for another event where we&#x27;ll familiarise you with academic concepts, and the practical advantages that they provide to businesses and entrepreneurs.The University of Plymouth&#x27;s Dr Julian Stander will lead this session on Statistical Inference, specifically the Bayesian Approaches using R and Stan.This is an introductory session, so no prior experience is required and everyone is welcome. But we particularly recommend it if you have a professional interest in business data and analytics. R and Stan code will be emailed to you, ahead of the event.This type of data analysis can be valuable in many instances for businesses for example:<ul><li>how quarterly pizza sales depend on the student population; </li><li>how the Standard &amp; Poor’s 500 index depends on the Dow Jones Industrial Average; </li><li>how the annual sales of a sales person depends on his or her years of experience; </li><li>how the speed of a printer depends on its cost. </li></ul>
