Introducing the Music Intelligence Database

This workshop is for anyone interested in music and data, and those interested in understanding culture and cultural consumption through data-driven techniques.

Building on HEC Montréal’s strengths, Professor Danilo Dantas has developed a unique and proprietary database about the music industry gathering data from various sources (social media, sales figures, streaming platforms). This Music Intelligence Database opens the door for many collaborative research projects about the music industry. The database is part of a world-class research hub on marketing in the music industry. The MID will enhance our understanding of consumer behaviour, communication strategies employed by musicians and record companies, effects of social networks on the consumption of music, etc.

What’s on offer at the workshop?

Get to know the Music Intelligence Database! Come and learn more about a unique proprietary database dedicated to support research on different aspects of consumption in the music industry, through the integration of several data sources. The variety and scope of information contained in this database will allow researchers to explore various research questions. We ask you to bring an enquiring mind, and a willingness to share ideas about how this unique database could elicit new understandings of music and musicking (Small, 1998). The event will include an opportunity to workshop ideas for research questions and studies in small teams over a sandwich lunch.

Danilo Dantas is Professor of Marketing at HEC Montréal. Danilo is in charge of the graduate diploma in Management of Cultural Organizations. He is VP of the Board of Jeunesses Musicales Canada and a member of the scientific committee of the OICRM.
