Introduction to AI Ethics

A five-part introductory course, taught by Dr. Ashurst  of the Future of Humanity Institute, on AI Ethics

This course will investigate the moral and societal implications of Artificial Intelligence. The course will examine the most relevant and important issues that dominate the debate around ethics in AI through a series of lectures and discussion. Each session will build on the previous sessions.Topics covered include:<ul><li>Historical context, and how ethics fits in</li><li>Algorithmic properties - properties of relevance to ethics and societal impact, such as fairness, explainability and scale</li><li>AI and society - local and global impacts from AI</li><li>Governance of AI - how to ensure beneficial AI, through oversight and other mechanisms</li></ul>

We strongly encourage interested participants from across the university community to join us for this interdisciplinary course. As a free, non-credit course organized by and for members of the University of Oxford community, this course has no assignments or assessments. We ask only for your attendance and participation. There will be required weekly lectures and optional weekly readings.Participants who complete the course will be invited to participate in an AI ethics project with OxAI.
