Get started with blacksmithing at the Edinburgh Forge Community Workshop

Introduction to BlacksmithingTry your hand at Blacksmithing for a friendly welcome into 'THE FORGE' community makers space, right in the heart of Edinburgh. Learn from artist blacksmith Jack Waygood. Having taught his craft at degree level, Jack has a wide range of expertise with a background in architectural ironwork, visual art and sculpture as-well as jewellery making, tool making and industrial forging. Check out his website here www.workofiron.co.uk Courses at the Forge can be tailored to meet your skill level with no experience being necessary. For a beginner session, you will be introduced to the alchemy of blacksmithing and started off with some basic techniques. This will involve a fascinating insight into metallurgy and learning to physically control the fire and forging at the anvil.Contact Jack by email at jack@workofiron.co.uk or find him on FB – Jack woi Waygood and Insta @work_of_iron.This is a practical course, and you will be expected to get your hands dirty! However, there is no pressure, and we will work at your pace, Jack will be on hand to help demonstrate and give guidance at all times. Everything is provided including PPE but please wear suitable clothing (were working with fire), wear boots and something you don’t mind getting dirty in.  you may also want to bring your own refreshments and a favourite hammer if you have one.This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to return to the Forge and use the facilities confidently when the space is open. The workshops lasts 2 hours with 2 places available on each session.   Session times are /  9am – 11am, 11am – 1pm, 2pm – 4pm For concessions use code: CONCESSION
