On these pages we post field volunteering opportunities and all our workshops in flax processing, natural dyeing, printing with natural dyes, flax corn dolly making, spinning and weaving . Flax produces the fibre that makes linen. Learn how to hand process flax straw into flaxen hair-like fibre and turn it into linen cordage.

Flax Processing Workshops

Regular workshops in all aspects of flax processing and cordage.

In this workshop we will go through all the processes starting with removing the seeds and then extracting the fibre from the flax plant. Participants will get the opportunity to break, scutch and comb the flax and make this wonderful transformation happen. We will then turn the fibre into a simple cordage. All the processes will be explained, this is slow farming, slow craft, the old fashioned way using hand tools and patience. Tea and biscuits and all materials are provided.Suitable for all ages and abilities. Under 16&#x27;s must be accompanied. Maximum of 6 participants per class.I am trialling this as a regular monthly workshop, but I may find this is too frequent or that the class needs to be expanded in to two sessions or a whole day. So there maybe some tweaking. Please note that there needs to be at least 3 people for the class to go ahead. If we do not have enough people the workshop will be cancelled and rescheduled.
