During the Renaissance in Italy a cursive variant of Carolingian hand developed. This grew out of a need to write at a faster pace than before, this became known as the Italic writing hand. Come and learn how to do Italic writing for cards, poems or just for pleasure.
Description of uses of calligraphy: cards, labels, gift tags, poems, wedding stationery for example.
Simplified strokes will be practised to establish the basic letterforms. Practising letters in groups; zig zags, loops ,arches. Attention will be paid to students sitting position, pen angle etc.
Guidance will be given throughout to lead onto the actual italic letters and words. Guidance to perfect thick and thin strokes, keeping a consistent pen angle of 45 degrees. Moving on to actual writing. Roman capitals will be explained to go with the lower case letters used.
