Introduction to Machine Learning

Born out of the research labs of TU Delft with over 20 years of experience in the synthesis of aerosols, VSPARTICLE believes there is a whole new world of possibilities at the nanoscale.As we all start to understand these possibilities, it will enable research and industry to rethink production processes and develop new materials to create innovative applications. At VSPARTICLE we support this process by making nanoparticle-based manufacturing as easy as pushing a button and providing research and industry with the tools to rapidly advance the field of nanotechnology.

This workshop is organised as a collaboration between <a href="https://materialpioneers.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Material Pioneers</a>,<a href="https://osc-delft.github.io/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Open Science Community Delft</a> and <a href="https://data.4tu.nl/info/en/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">4TU.ResearchData</a> .This course is an introductory workshop to machine learning concepts – no coding experience required! Instructors: Amr Hilal obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2013, and his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the Department of Computer and Systems Engineering, Alexandria University, Egypt in 2003 and 2007 respectively. Dr. Hilal is currently an assistant professor, leading the Informatics Lab at Virginia Tech where he works within a team of informatics consultants to provide data-related consultations to the research community across all disciplines. Within his team he directs the use of Machine/Deep learning techniques in emerging research problems. Dr. Hilal&#x27;s current research interests include Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), Internet of Things (IoT), Vehicular Networks, Cyber Security, and Applied Machine Learning.Chreston Miller obtained his PhD from the Department of Computer Science at Virginia tech in 2013, his M.S in Computer Science and Applications in 2007 and a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2006. Dr. Miller is currently an assistant professor and the Data and Informatics Consultant for Engineering within Data Services of the University Libraries at Virginia Tech. He provides consulting services for researchers at Virginia Tech centered around data-related challenges.His focus has been in Machine Learning/Deep Learning but supports a wide array of data-related areas such as data wrangling and data sensemaking. Dr. Miller’s current research interests are Applied Machine Learning, specifically Natural Language Processing, Human Behavior Analysis, and Human-Centered Computing.Who:The workshop is aimed at Early Career Reseachers (PhDr candidates, postdocs and assistant professors/research associates) doing reseach in material science.Prerequisites: None.Where: This training will take place online.
