Event description

Description

A basic knowledge of media law is essential for journalism, and whether you’re a student, hyperlocal publisher, community news reporter, blogger, podcaster, freelance or recently returned to the sector after a careers break, this course is an unmissable grounding in the basics of media law in 2019.

Leading UK media law expert David Banks will deliver a two-hour workshop in partnership with Centre for Community Journalism/ Glyndwr University aimed at equipping you with good working knowledge of the main legal pitfalls involved in publication in print or on the web, or via broadcast media.

The workshop covers libel, contempt, reporting the courts, sexual offences, children, privacy, confidentiality and copyright. It is suitable for those with little or no experience in this field.

Also now booking: a separate afternoon workshop looking in depth at some of the major changes and case-studies in media law over the last 12 months, including RooneyVardyGate, Harry and Meghan, reporting restrictions, sexual offence anonymity, contempt of court, copyright and social media. Plus, the latest on Brexit and its ramifications for UK reporting.
