About this event

Students will learn the rudiments of setting up an ornamental turning lathe and rose engine as well as the basic functions of the typical cutting frames and the basics of touch/rosette relationships on the rose engine. This class will include the set up and basic functions of the spiral apparatus, the curvilinear apparatus, the reciprocator, and the rose engine as it applies to ornamental turning in wood. The class will include making small objects such as bottle stoppers and handles that will represent a broad cross section of applications. This is a hands on course where students will receive instruction but personally be setting up and operating both antique and modern machines. The patterns explored will be simple with a focus more on the set up and operation of the machinery. This class is for beginners. The class will start on Friday and Saturday morning at 9am and end at 6pm or later. It is a two-day class; however, the shop will be open to students on Sunday morning to catch up on unfinished work or to do an extra project.

Cost: $650 including materials.
