Event info

I am excited to be facilitating this series of philosophical enquiry sessions at the Salisbury Centre ✨

Each session will begin with a short story or stimulus which leads us to a question that we will explore in a collective enquiry. The discussion is open-ended and together we will see where it leads us. You will be invited to think about the reasons behind your points of view and respond to the ideas of others. We will explore questions such as:

💬 What is it that makes us the same person over time?

💬 Is it better to be an unhappy person or a happy animal?

💬 What is it that makes objects what they are?

💬 Do we have free will?

Engaging in philosophical enquiry can help to strengthen critical thinking, reasoning and communication skills. It also offers the opportunity to think about new ideas and develop your perspective.

Each session stands alone—you’re welcome to attend as many as you like! No session on Monday 21st April.

About your facilitator

I am really passionate about the practice of philosophical enquiry since it creates a space for people of all ages to explore the big questions that are important to them. Engaging with philosophy in this way makes it accessible to everyone because it doesn’t require any prior experience or knowledge.

I have an Honours degree in Philosophy from the University of Glasgow. I am an accredited Specialist Philosophy Teacher with the Philosophy Foundation, who train teachers and philosophy graduates to deliver philosophical enquiry sessions in schools and other settings. I have experience of facilitating philosophical enquiry sessions in school as well as community settings. I have completed the ‘Begin it Now’ storytelling course with Stella Kassimati at Emerson College and enjoy integrating a storytelling approach into my sessions.

"Laura made sure to build in ways to encourage participants to engage with each other and created an atmosphere of inclusivity"

What is philosophical enquiry?

Good question! Philosophical enquiry is about exploring big questions and ideas through open discussion. It’s a way of thinking deeply and considering different perspectives. Instead of looking for right or wrong answers, we focus on reasoning, reflection, and learning from each other’s viewpoints.
