Introduction to Printmaking

At Draw we run affordable online and in-person drawing, painting and printmaking classes, open to everybody. We run online life classes and printmaking-from-home courses for our international drawing community, as well as our in-person programme at venues in Brighton & Hove.

Join us for an accessible one-day introduction to printmaking, exploring relief, intaglio & planographic processes.

This one-day crash courses is intended to make printmaking as accessible as possible. If you’re curious about printmaking, but not sure where to start then this workshop will act as a signpost to direct you towards the process that best suit the work you want to make, all under the expert guidance of artist &amp; author, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/scarlettrebecca/" title="https://www.instagram.com/scarlettrebecca/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Scarlett Rebecca</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;What to Expect&nbsp;Over the course of this fun and fast-paced day you’ll explore the potential of printmaking, making three prints using three different printmaking processes. You’ll be introduced to three of the main printmaking families; relief print, intaglio print and planographic print. Using the collection of printmaking presses on offer at Draw, we will explore collagraph, drypoint and kitchen lithography, finishing the day with three small print editions.&nbsp;&nbsp; The session is open to all abilities &amp; levels of experience and Scarlett will be on hand to guide you through the processes and to offer help and informal feedback throughout the day.&nbsp; If you want to continue printmaking after this session, Scarlett will give you instructions on how to print at home without a press and details of local print workshops you can join.&nbsp;&nbsp; What to Bring All materials will be provided. You will need to bring:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<ul><li>Reference images or drawings that you’d like to develop into prints&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>A sketchbook for note taking&nbsp;</li></ul><ul><li>Apron &amp; clothes suitable for printing&nbsp;</li></ul> Getting to the studioApproach New England House from the New England Street side of the building and walk up to the locked blue double doors next to the sign for the ‘Building Manager’s Office’. Wait to be let in or call the number on the door for entry - the studio is on level 5, Unit 1 South, just knock and walk in. The building has a wheelchair ramp at the North side of the New England Street entrance and lifts up to level 5 with gender-neutral toilets &amp; accessible toilets on floors 4 &amp; 6 accessed by lift.Oil paints will be used during this session - our air purifier and good ventilation to minimise fumes.
