Overview

Join us in person to learn the basics of scything and get hands-on with this rewarding skill.

Introduction to Scything

Come along for a day's enjoyable, hands-on session where you'll learn the basics of scything amidst the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. Learn about a traditional way of cutting, from mowing your lawn to clearing vegetation, while connecting with nature. We will cover technique, safety and maintenance and will primarily be using the ergonomic Austrian scythe, showing you how to correctly fit the implement to your individual self (although, if preferred, you are welcome to bring any type of scythe you may have to practice with). No experience needed, just bring your enthusiasm!

Introduction to Scything course includes the following:

  • How to set up the scythe
  • Choice of blades for your own application
  • Sharpening/ health & safety
  • Technique and stance
  • Personal troubleshooting and observation
  • Discussion on peening options

Please aim to be at the venue at 9.45am for commencement at 10am
