Introduction to Spoon Carving
Join us in person to learn the basics of spoon carving—fun, hands-on, and perfect for beginners!
Join Our Introduction to Spoon Carving Workshop!
Following last year’s shrink pot & axe carving courses we happily present our Introduction to Spoon Carving course.
This is a 3 hour workshop, designed to introduce you to the principles of spoon carving with green wood in the beautiful grounds of the Path Head Mill at Blaydon.
The course will guide you through the process of carving your own spoon or spatula from fresh green wood from the tree, using various knife techniques and methods. We will be using Mora Carving knives, Robin Wood hook knives, draw knives and draw horses. All tools are provided in the course. We will also display and discuss Kolrosing, the ancient Scandinavian art of embellishing your spoon using fire coals or pigments for you to experiment at home.
At an unbelievable bargain price (FYI: £60+ elsewhere!) you will experience an intimate group session designed to get you started using basic tools and principles.
The workshop will take place outside under cover, nestled beside the old Path Head mill which is full of trees and bird song. There you will find a refreshing cup of morning coffee, practical instruction and helpful guidance to get you carving your own wild wood spoon.
We hope for it to be an inspiring day of hands-on learning and discovery centered around green woodworking and craft. You can try your hand at using all of the tools necessary to spoon carving as well as helpful hints on how to build your own green woodworking tools at home.
We understand from feedback at last year’s course that there is a need to connect with fellow enthusiasts and so we will give you helpful sign-posts to local festivals and fellow experts who can help you hone your skills in the areas that you are most interested in.
Tea and excellent coffee will be available in the mill café where you can also get lunch however we recommend bringing a sandwich as the café can get very busy due to its excellent food and popularity.
Suitable for ages 18+
(if you wish to bring anyone under this age please speak with the event organizer prior to purchasing a ticket on 07477300153)
