Introduction to Statelessness

Cynthia OrchardLegal Policy OfficerCynthia joined Asylum Aid in 2016. She has previously worked with UNHCR (London), REDRESS, BADIL (the Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights), Oxford’s Refugee Studies Centre, and several other NGOs, including  as a legal representative with the Immigration Advisory Service in London for several years. Cynthia is qualified as a lawyer (Virginia, 2002) and was accredited with the OISC (Level 2, 2005-2008), and she completed a Master of Studies degree in International Human Rights Law at Oxford in 2014. Her work at Asylum Aid focuses mainly on statelessness and LGBTI issues.

Asylum Aid

Asylum Aid is offering free (non-legal) training on statelessness:
Saturday, 29 April 2017 – 10.30am-1pm - Brighton
This session is for anyone interested in statelessness and is designed for a non-legal audience, in particular people who may encounter stateless persons through their work with NGOs, such as: social workers, support workers, intake staff, persons working at homeless shelters, staff and volunteers who are not legally qualified who work in the immigration/asylum sector, immigration detainee visitors, etc.
This session will cover: introduction to statelessness generally; basic introduction to the UK’s Immigration Rules relating to statelessness; some key issues relating to detention of stateless persons; and referral of stateless persons for legal advice and other assistance.
The session will be run by: Cynthia Orchard, Legal Policy Officer at <A HREF="http://www.asylumaid.org.uk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Asylum Aid</A> and is offered in collaboration with Brighton Migrant Solidarity. It will be held at the Cowley Club. 
Places are free, but space is limited – you must be registered in advance to attend.
