This course introduces "version control", which allows you to track changes to files over time and collaborate safely with others.

This course introduces "version control", which allows you to save different versions of your files so you can track changes over time and collaborate safely with others. 

What you will need:

This is an introductory session. You will need a Unix-style terminal, and a GitHub account for the second part of the session. 

What you will learn:  

  • Why tracking your changes is vital for reliable research. 
  • How to save, name, and retrieve old versions of your files. 
  • How to back up your work to a cloud service like GitHub.
