Description

The Structural Dynamics Laboratory for Verification and Validation (LVV) at the University of Sheffield is a major new acoustics and vibration testing facility. The facility will provide a unique research offering to academia and industry. In addition to allowing dynamic testing of full-scale structures in ambient laboratory conditions.

This 12-hour course will cover basic single-degree-of-freedom vibrations, introducing the ideas of natural frequencies, dampings and resonance and will involve some laboratory demonstrations. It will cover multi-degree-of-freedom systems in an intuitive manner, avoiding the use of matrix eigenvalues, but explaining the concept of a mode shape. Some revision of basic engineering mathematics will be given, but the attendees should have a working knowledge of calculus up to elementary differential equations.

Businesses based in the Sheffield city region are eligible to attend.
