About this event

  • 1 hour

In 1902, Haveloick Ellis (psychiatrist) published first person interviews with LGBTQ+ people, collected within the previous 100 years. Shocking, sexy, romantic, awkward stories of love, desire and bodies. Using the voices of these interviews, Inverts presents a glimpse into our history (and a mirror for ourselves.) A new play by Matthew Drapper.

A Buxton Festival Fringe event. Matthew Drapper is Fringe Award nominated for Bringing Me Back to Me, 2022.

We are accustomed to thinking of LGBTQ+ existence as a modern phenomenon, with a short post-war history, but in truth, people who could be considered lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer have always existed. Inverts draws on first person interviews, and one doctor's observations, of individuals from the past who would be catagorised under one or more of those headings today. Authentic, surprising and remarkably modern, selections of Havelock's interviews and observations have been collected to give a picture of their world.

Tickets are available on the door. £10.00, or £5.00 concession.
