Invisible Visible Empowerment Workshop

Invisible Visible Empowerment Workshop

Palace Green LibraryDurham, England
Friday, Mar 6 from 12 pm to 2 pm GMT
Overview

A creative exploration of disability and the barriers to workplace inclusion.

Invisible Visible was produced by artist Hope Caitlin in collaboration with arts education company Changing Relations and features conceptual photography and illustrations inspired by seven anonymous first-hand accounts of what it is like to be disabled in the workplace.

It will be launched as a digital exhibition on the Durham University website, with an in-person Empowerment workshop to help you create a work-with-me guide.

Have you ever felt lost as a disabled person attempting to communicate your boundaries and limitations to clients, colleagues and employers?

Being disabled can feel akin to being invisible and hyper visible without ever really feeling seen.

This workshop, led by artists Hope Caitlin and Kim McDermottroe, will

  • Create a safe supportive space to foster conversation alongside people with lived experience
  • Use the Invisible Visible content as a creative way to explore our understanding - and experience - of disability in the workplace - considering the challenges we face but also our unique contribution
  • Build your confidence to articulate your value and create your own personal work-with-me guide - a document that will feature your accessibility needs and describe what working alongside you may look like
  • Provide you with a gorgeous (FREE!!) workbook filled with artwork, lived experience testimony and space to note your own reflections
  • Enable you to connect with like-minded individuals to grow your support circle

Do let us know if you have any access needs you would like us to be aware of ahead of time. Due to the nature of this workshop, inclusion is at the forefront.

We also ask that you not bring food and only bottled beverages to the session. This is to ensure the wellbeing of everyone in the room.

Finally if you have any specific questions you would like to be embedded within the workshop ahead of time do drop us a message!
