Description

Learn and discuss Islam and find out more about Muslims in the UK in our modern world through ten weekly/two-hour interactive and friendly sessions facilitated by an experienced and qualified tutor. The course does not need participants to have any prior knowledge of Islam.

TOPICS:

1. The core of Islam: The Six Articles of Faith and the Five Pillars

2. Muhammad and the other Prophets and Muslim beliefs about Jesus

3. Position of Women in Islam including Hijab/Niqab, marriage/divorce, FGM, domestic violence

4. Jihad: Extremism, Radicalism, Terrorism, Suicide, Holy War, Sacrifice, Human Rights, Human Dignity

5. Islam and Muslim Presence in Britain: Muslim Identity between Assimilation and Segregation, Citizenship, Loyalty, Patriotism, Participation in Civil Society, Islam and British Culture, Home Truths

6. The Qualities of Faith

TUTOR: Muhammad Manwar Ali B.Sc.(Hons) M.Sc. Comp. Sci., MA in Islamic Studies with a Diploma in Arabic is the founder and Chief Executive of JIMAS, a UK educational charity. Manwar has worked in IT for 25 years and has extensive experience in teaching Islam and community projects for over 30 years.

Free course notes and a set of three books will be provided.
