Islamic SEND Teaching Workshop

Supporting SEND learners in Islamic education requires more than repeating instructions or simplifying a worksheet. It begins with understanding the barriers that may affect a learner’s communication, attention, sensory regulation, processing and access to learning.

This practical online workshop is designed for brothers and sisters who teach or support children within maktabs, madrasas, Qur’an classes, Islamic schools or at home.

During this workshop, we will explore:

• How SEND differences may present in Islamic learning environments
• Why behaviour may be communicating an unmet need
• Practical ways to adapt Qur’an, Qaidah and Islamic Studies teaching
• The use of visuals, flashcards, concrete objects, books and sensory resources
• How sensory stories can make Islamic concepts more meaningful and accessible
• Examples of adapted resources created by LearningVilla
• Widgit-supported visuals and resources available within the mainstream SEND market
• Practical strategies that can be applied within your own teaching environment

About the Facilitator

Ferdousy is a SEND HLTA with over 14 years of experience working in mainstream schools. She holds a BA (Hons) in Primary Education Studies and has completed professional development in Understanding Autism, communication and sensory differences. She also draws upon her experience of teaching Qur’an and adapting Islamic learning for children with additional needs.

This is an educational and information-based workshop informed by professional knowledge and practical experience. The facilitator is not a clinical psychologist, and the workshop does not provide diagnostic or clinical advice.

Suitable for maktab and madrasa teachers, Qur’an and Islamic Studies teachers, SEND practitioners, parents, carers and home educators.
