Event description

Description

Innovate Walsall, cordially invites you to a panel event entitled "Islamophobia: Challenges & Opportunities" with keynote speaker, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, alongside Professor Francis Davis and Esmat Jeraj, with a Q&A, meet & greet, and book signing.

Innovate Walsall promotes community integration and challenges all forms of hatred in Walsall, The Black Country and the surrounding West Midlands region.

Incidents of hate crime have spiralled since the Brexit vote in 2016. The rise of Islamophobia in particular is causing concern both in Britain and abroad. We have brought together a panel of experts to discuss the nature of the issue, how it is proliferating and what can be done to effectively counter it.

Considering the vast experience and expertise of the speakers, this panel event promises to be both eye-opening and thought-provoking.

About the speakers:

· Baroness Sayeeda Warsi - former Foreign Office and Communities Minister; former Chairman of the Conservative Party; and author of "The Enemy Within: A Tale of Muslim Britain".

· Professor Francis Davies - Professor of Religion, Communities and Public Policy at University of Birmingham.

· Esmat Jeraj - is a Community Organiser at CitizensUK, and author of the Citizens Commission on Islam, Participation and Public Life’s report, "The Missing Muslims: Unlocking British Muslim Potential for the Benefit of All”.

Innovate Walsall invites you to meet the speakers and join the conversation.

Taking place on Sunday 22nd April 2018 at The Goldmine Centre, 14a Lower Hall Lane, Walsall, WS1 1RL, the event starts promptly at 3pm, aiming to finish by 5pm.

Registration is from 2.15pm onwards, where light refreshments will be served.

Please note: in what is anticpated to be a highly popular event, places will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Book now to avoid disappointment.
