Jakub Cywiński Quartet feat. Monika Lidke!

Jakub Cywiński Quartet was founded in June 2022 in London on the initiative of double bass player and bass guitarist Jakub Cywiński. The idea of the band was to present Jakub's original compositions. Their music oscillates on the border of mainstream jazz, ethno, and fusion.

The band consists of recognized musicians from the London scene and beyond, each of them collaborates on many different projects, composes, and records solo albums.

On this occasion a Polish singer Monika Lidke will join the group to sing few originals as well as exciting arrangements of jazz songs!

Jakub Cywiński - double bass, bass guitar, a native of Poland, studied music at the Royal College of Music in London (the Constant & Kit Lambert Junior Fellowship award). Jakub performs throughout Europe and Asia in collaboration with various artists such as Ola Onabule, Andy Sheppard, Przemysław Strączek Quartet, Krzysztof Urbański, Janette Mason, Julian Nicholas, Duncan Eagles, Gianluca di Ienno, Piotr Damasiewicz, and John Paul Muir among others. He also appears as the leader of his own projects .

Monika Lidke is a singer-songwriter of Polish origin, currently living in London.  As a longtime resident in the UK, Monika has performed at many of the capital’s favourite jazz clubs, including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club, 606 Jazz Club, as well as the London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Jazzahead and Rhythms of the World Festival. A keen collaborator with a passion for wordless vocals Monika shared the stage Shez Raja, Andy Sheppard, Shabaka Hutchings, Soweto Kinch, she also co-writes songs for film and TV with international composers, poets and lyricists and will soon be releasing her fifth album with beautiful string arrangements by Wayne Urquhart, featuring the UK’s top jazz musicians Sophie Alloway, Tony Kofi, Jakub Cywiński and Shez Raja.

Line up:

Monika Lidke - vocal

Julian Nicholas - sax

John Paul Muir - piano

Jakub Cywiński - double bass

Marek Dorcik - drums

Julian Nicholas is a jazz recording artist, bandleader, session musician, composer, producer and educator. Julian has recorded live for BBC Radio 3 at Ronnie Scott’s, with the return of Loose Tubes; with The Cloggz at the South Coast Jazz Festival and alongside Claire Martin OBE at The Barbican.

“Julian Nicholas is a saxophonist of not only great technical prowess but also delicacy of expression and intensity of feeling. He has exciting and expressive qualities alongside a faultless technique” - Tony Hall, Jazz the Magazine

John Paul Muir has established himself as one of the finest pianists to emerge from New Zealand in recent years, and certainly one of the most versatile; equally at home in both classical, jazz, and contemporary genres.

Marek Dorcik started playing drums at the age of 13 and soon after started studying classical music at a Conservatoire in his hometown Zilina, where he was introduced to jazz by his good friend, Radovan Tariska, who is now one of the top alto saxophone players in Central Europe. He moved to the UK in 2006 and has been very fortunate to have the opportunity to play music with the elite of the Northern jazz scene on different occasions. Some of the projects he was involved with were Mathew Halsall, Neil Yates, Brownfield Byrne Quintet, The Moss Project, Mike Walker, Ian Dixon and Stuart McCallum. In 2019 Marek formed his own group Spercasa with a debut album titled About Time, rated 4-star review from Jazzwise
