J.A.M. String Collective live at The Clock Tower
Contemporary string trio J.A.M. String Collective perform moments from their acclaimed debut album ‘She Looks Up at the Trees’ in the intimate venue of The Clock Tower above St Pancras Chambers. The music occupies a fluid space between jazz and contemporary string sound worlds, with improvisatory elements running throughout.
"simultaneously beautiful, brash and starkly fragile." (Jazzwise)
"sinuously entwined ensemble inventiveness, succinct solo breaks and cruising grooves” (The Guardian)
“incredible range of mood and textures, you can really hear them thinking and storytelling.” (BBC Radio 3, Soweto Kinch)
The album also features a newly composed suite of music written for ‘Improvising String Trio & Loop Pedals’ by Oleta Haffner (Jonas Gwangwa Composition Initiative Awardee). The thematic material in Haffner’s ‘Elemental Suite’ depicts the devastation of the Climate Crisis in dramatic and virtuosic melodic statements and expansive cinematic group improvisations, punctuated by a rich percussive palette in the looped beats.
The Clock Tower is the perfect venue to hear this music come to life! Read more about it here (including a resident falcon!): https://www.stpancrasclocktower.london/about-us
