The Landscape Institute (LI) is the chartered body for the landscape professions.With over 5600 members and 500 Registered Practices, operating in over 40 countries, we provide a professional home for all landscape practitioners including landscape scientists, landscape planners, landscape architects, landscape managers and urban designers.The LI’s aim, through the work of its members is to protect, conserve and enhance the natural and built environment for the public benefit.

Landscape Institute

The Jellicoe Lecture is a free thought leadership event run annually by the Landscape Institute. This year, in line with Scotland’s year of young people, the lecture will be held at the iconic Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. 
Explore how your work can inspire the next generation, and enjoy a series of talks from an excellent panel of global leaders and young luminaries in the fields of landscape and sustainability.

A senior placemaking adviser for scottish natural heritage, Fiona specialises in green infrastructure, landscape planning and place-making. Her role involves working collaboratively with planning authorities and other local authority services to develop spatial strategies, design frameworks and development briefs, as well as advising on policy and project development.
Fiona has a BSc in Landscape Design and Archaeology, a Diploma in Landscape Architecture, and an MA in Landscape Research from the University of Sheffield. With a postgraduate certificate in higher education (PCHE), Fiona is also a qualified higher education teacher. She taught in the Department of Landscape at the University of Sheffield for a number of years, while undertaking her PhD research.

Mahmoud AlBurai is currently serving as the CEO of Dubai Real Estate Institute. He has been vice president of International Real Estate Federation, FIABCI Arabic Countries since 2016, and sits on the board of International Real estate Society (IRES). He leads the Affordable Housing Working Group at the World Economic Forum.
Mahmoud has been selected to be FIABCI representative at the United Nations Economic Commission for West Asia (UNESCWA) and UNECE (Geneva). Since 2015, he has chaired the UN Global Compact UAE, and has represented the Middle East and North Africa region in the UN Global Compact Advisory Board for two years.
In his role as UN Global Compact’s MENA Representative, Mahmoud has led many sustainable development goals-driven initiatives. He has started youth ambassadors programs in seven UAE universities, and led the establishment of the Women’s Empowerment Principles in the UAE.
Recently, Mahmoud established a think tank, the Middle East Sustainable Development Institute, to lobby governments, businesses and communities to action on SDGs in the Middle East.
<H2>About the Jellicoe Lecture</H2>
The Jellicoe Lecture honours Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe (8 October 1900 - 17 July 1996). An architect, town planner, landscape architect, garden designer, lecturer and author, Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe was a founding member of the Landscape Institute in 1929 and President from 1939 to 1949. In 1948, he became the founding President of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA).
