Junior Croftathon

Junior Croftathon

Leith Community CroftLeith, Edinburgh
Saturday, Jan 24 from 11 am to 3 pm GMT
Overview

The children and teen version of Earth in Common's Croftathon event. How many laps of the coft or Leith Links West can you do?

Junioir Croftathon invites children and teens to their own events in our running weekend, all ages, all abilities. Run, walk or toddle round Leith Community Croft (400 metres) or maybe, for the older or more ambitious youngsters, add a bigger loop of the Links (1400 metres) . Stop there or maybe try and do it all again an hour later.

Parents are free to encourage or guide younger children. They are also encouraged to arrange sponsorship or make a donation. There will be prizes, including best fancy dress, and fun activities throughout the day.

The Story Behind It

Twelve years ago, Leithers reclaimed a forgotten patch of common good land and transformed it into something extraordinary: Leith Community Croft. What was once wasteland is now a thriving green space where food grows, friendships flourish, and children learn skills for life. It’s a place of hope, resilience, and community.

Over the years, the Croft has faced its share of challenges - economic turbulence which affects funding for grassroot organisations, harsh weather, vandalism and the complexities of running a community Charity charting a route for common good. But through every problem we’ve faced, one thing has remained constant: the croft matters. In a world of broken food systems and widening inequality, spaces like this are lifelines. They teach us about nature, nurture our wellbeing, and bring people together when so much else pulls us apart.

Now we are asking for your help. Croftathon is about weaving a circle of love around the Croft - giving it the breathing space it needs to stabilise and emerge stronger in 2026.

Every lap is a statement.

Every step says: this place matters.

Please join us. Start fundraising via Just Giving CROFTATHON The Main Event | Donate. Spread the word. Together, we can protect the croft and keep community thriving.
