Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Brighter Sound presents Junior Jam – an exciting Saturday morning music group for children aged four to eight.

Junior Jam gives children the chance to develop musical skills in a fun, friendly and accessible way. Sessions last 50 minutes and take place once a month at Band on the Wall, with musical games and activities, including time to experiment, play with instruments and socialise.

Junior Jam is led by Kabantu (previously Project Jam Sandwich), a world-folk-fusion quintet of award-winning musicians known for concocting captivating, exhilarating improvisations, infectious rhythms and beautiful melodies from around the globe.

All instruments are provided.

Sat 6 May - 'Junk Percussion' and Samba.

Make your own percussion instruments out of household recyclable material*. Musicians Delia and Ben will teach you how to find interesting sounds on your instrument and how to combine these in an ensemble. Looking at the structure of how samba music is put together, we'll learn samba 'calls' and how to respond to rhythms in a group.

*Participants should bring one or two small items they could use as a basis for an instrument, such as a juice carton, empty jar or milk bottle.

Sat 17 Jun - At the Movies

What makes certain films so iconic? The music! Whether it's the theme to a scary character or the use of particular instruments to make a scene feel bitterly cold, music plays a big role in cinema. Musician's Abel and Katie will guide you through lots of different instrumental sounds and techniques, and you'll have the chance to create your own soundtrack to a movie scene.

Sat 8 Jul - Rock 'n' Roll Ukuleles!

Cool dudes Ben and Ali will give you a crash course in blues and rock 'n' roll. Using ukuleles* you will lean about the scale patterns, instrumentation and rhythms that make blues and rock 'n' roll really groove, and why America is still so associated with these particular genres.

*Participants can borrow a ukulele for use in the session only. If you have your own, do bring it along.

Please click 'tickets' to choose the session/s you wish to book - you don't have to attend every month. Places are limited so early booking is advised.
