Kinder Sunrise

Welcome to Freshwalks. This Sunrise Hike event is part of our own vibrant business community programme and everyone is welcome to join us for an early morning of hiking and networking in the great outdoors. Feel free to come alone - most Freshwalkers do - and you'll be warmly welcomed or invite a colleague or client along for company. NB. Please note that these events start in total darkness and require you to bring a headtorch. We have limited spares.

Route description

We initially walk through Edale village before joining the start of the Pennine Way. We then quickly exit the beaten path and head directly for Grindslow Knoll cutting steeply across fields and up paths towards the 601m summit (approx 2.7km into the walk, ascent 366m).

We’ll move at a steady pace up onto Kinder Scout and we’ll look to stop somewhere for a short break and a chance for breakfast or hot flask refreshments. Sunrise will happen circa 07:31.

Thereafter, we’ll head across to the top of Grindsbrook Clough before heading east along the edges of Kinder Scout past Upper Tor and Nether Tor before beginning our descent back into Edale village. It’s a cracking little circular route that packs a lot of morning punch.

06:15 - Meeting, Edale station car park

06:30 - Walk starts

07:31 - Sunrise

07:45 - Breakfast quick stop (please bring a hot flask and/or some light snacks)

10:00 - Walk finishes, Newfold Farm, Edale village

Parking: Please park in the train station car park. Aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before the walk start time.

Public transport: Train from Manchester Piccadilly at 05:46 arrives in Edale 06:24, passing Stockport at 05:56 and Hazel Grove at 06:03.
