About this event

After the success of our 30th Anniversary off road ride we are sticking with the same for 2024!

Select either Bikeathon only tickets or Bikeathon plus Family Fundraising Ceilidh* tickets to get your Ceilidh tickets at a discounted price (£5 adult rather than £7.50 and £2.50 child rather than £5). The Ceilidh takes place on Saturday 15th June 7pm - 10pm at the Duke of Gordon Hotel in Kingussie.

The Kingussie Bikeathon is a family-friendly, fun cycling event. 26 miles along a marked and marshalled route in the stunning Cairngorms National Park. For over 30 years the Bikeathon has been a favourite date on the family calendar.

Balance Bike Ride to Tromie Meadows

This year we have organised a balance bike ride from Kingussie High School, past Ruthven Barracks following the cycle path to Tromie Bridge and the meadows for a 'Wee Picnic' before ruturning to the Duke of Gordon. This ride has been included so that we offer an easier, shorter, but still challenging ride for our younger participants. There is a limit of 50 places on this ride and all balance bike riders must be accompanied by an adult.

This ride will be well signposted and marshalled throughout the ride.

We have decided to continue with an off road ride to Gaick Lodge.

Starting at Kingussie High School, you will make your way up and past Ruthven Barracks and on towards Tromie Bridge.. Once over the bridge you will take a right turn and follow the gravel road all the way to Gaick Lodge. However, this year we be setting up our midway refreshment area at Keepers Lodge which is around 5km before Gaick Lodge. The reason for this is to allow those that wish to turnaround early this option while others can continue onto Gaick Lodge where a smaller refreshment set up will be positioned.

The family ride will return the same way. The family ride will be well signed and marshalled.

After the popularity of the longer ride we will be running the more advanced gravel route for experienced riders again. It heads out into Glenfeshie then over a high mountain pass through into Glen Tromie before joining the family route to head to Keepers Lodge, with the option of turning left to Gaick Lodge or, returning along Glen Tromie along the family route. This advanced route will be signposted but not marshalled. It is for more experienced riders who would like an added challenge, riders of this route need to be able to carry out their own repairs and be comfortable cycling and navigating through mountain terrain. Those U14 will not be able to ride this route while those U16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry fees are as follows: Advanced route £20, Family ride £15 for adults, £5 for kids and a balance bike ride to Tromie Meadows at £5 for kids and free for accompanying adults. Ticket sales from this community event will raise funds for Kingussie High School*. We encourage participants to raise additional sponsorship for a cause, club or group of their choice.

Registration will be open on the day from 9.30 am with the 'grand depart' at 10.30. Take as long as you wish to complete the route and enjoy one of our refreshment stops and entertainment along the way.

We are also asking participants to join us in supporting Mikey's Line and Cardiac Risk in the Young by raising sponsorship for the ride. Please look out for the Just Giving Team page, on the schools Facebook page, and create a link or collect a sponsor form from the school. In 2023 we raised over £1,300 and hope to beat this target in 2024 for both this incredibly worthwhile charities that our very close to our heart within Kingussie High School community.

We look forward to welcoming you to Cycle Friendly Kingussie for our 2024 Bikeathon.
