<p>Hosted at the <a href="https://www.kinodigital.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Kino Cinema, Bermondsey</a> by Dominic Delargy of the <a href="https://www.sohobitespodcast.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Soho Bites</a> podcast &amp; <a href="https://www.kcl.ac.uk/people/dr-lawrence-napper" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Lawrence Napper</a>, Senior Lecturer in Film Studies at Kings College, London, this is a series of six screenings of  1930s "Quota Quickies". Each screening will be followed by a Q&amp;A with a specially invited expert guest and a recording of the event (plus some extra goodies) will be packaged up and released as a podcast shortly afterwards.</p><p>The films will screen on Sunday afternoons at 1:30pm.</p><p>What on earth is a Quota Quickie? <h2>THE SEASON:</h2><h3>Sunday March 13th at 1:30pm</h3><h3>The Ghost Camera (1933) </h3><p>A surprisingly funny murder / comedy /mystery drama, it stars Henry Kendall, Ida Lupino and a very young John Mills. <h3>Sunday March 27th at 1:30pm</h3><h3>Death at Broadcasting House (1934). </h3><p>A murder mystery set and  partly shot at the BBC's (then) brand new headquarters. <h3>Sunday April 10th at 1:30pm</h3><h3>The Phantom Light (1935).</h3><p>Directed by a young Michael Powell and starring Gordon Harker and Binnie Hale, the action centres on an isolated lighthouse where the previous lighthouse keeper has been mysteriously murdered. <h3>Sunday April 24th at 1:30pm</h3><h3>Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1936)</h3><p>Anybody fancy a pie? Tod Slaughter stars in this ripe melodrama based on his highly successful stage play of the same name. <h3>Sunday May 8th at 1:30pm</h3><h3>Say it With Flowers (1934)</h3><p>Kind-hearted market traders stage a fundraising concert featuring some of the most famous music hall artists of the day. A fascinating glimpse of these long gone performers, some of whom began their careers in the 1870s. <h3>Sunday May 22nd at 1:30pm</h3><h3>Brief Ecstasy (1937)</h3><p>Hugh Williams &amp; Linden Travers star in this romantic drama from Ealing Studios as a couple who meet, fall in love and are separated due to a simple misunderstanding. Author <a href="https://research-portal.uea.ac.uk/en/persons/charles-barr" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Charles Barr</a> joins us for the final Q&amp;A of the season.</p><p>Running time: 60 mins</p><p>We couldn't find a clip of the film, but it features in Martin Scorsese's list of <a href="https://www.nme.com/news/film/edgar-wright-shares-martin-scorseses-list-of-50-best-british-films-2879395" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"><strong>British Films You Need To See Before You Die</strong></a></p>

<p>The Kino is a small independent cinema in <a href="https://bermondseysquare.net/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bermondsey Square</a>, about a ten minute walk from London Bridge station.  We're at the end of lively <a href="https://bermondseystreet.london/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bermondsey Street</a> and our lovely bar has an outside seating  area.  Come and join us for a film, a chat, a drink and a snack.</p>
