Event description

Description

This KIN talk is organised during the Amsterdam E-week. For this special edition, we will have a professor Marleen Huysman from the KIN Center for Digital Innovation and Dick Wellems, from the Dutch Police. They will delve deeper into the impact of Artificial Intelligence on our work.

Dick Willems works as a data scientist at the Dutch Police since 2012. He studied Mathematical Psychology and started his career working as a data scientist in the commercial (marketing) industry to gain experience. Within the Dutch Police, he mainly focuses on predictive policing – he is the creator of the Dutch predictive policing algorithm “CAS” – and the use of unstructured data such as text, image, and video data.

Marleen Huysman, director of the KIN Center for Digital innovation studies the impact of AI on work in various settings, such as the police, HR and recruitment, account managers and radiologists. Unique about her research approach and signature of all KIN’s research is that researchers go embedded in the organisations they study for a prolonged period of time. This allows KIN to understand in-depth what the introduction and use of new technologies mean for everyday work and helps to reveal the often unintended consequences of these technologies for organisations.

Marleen Huysman will debunk some of the frequently occurring assumptions and biases related to the impact of AI in organisations to ultimately arrive at a more productive perspective on the (im)possibilities of AI in our organizations. She will do this by building on the many rich examples from the embedded research she’s doing with her team.

Dick Willems will elaborate on the process of designing and further developing an algorithm. He will touch upon topics such as the expectations, design steps, problems, (unexpected) consequences, fixes, the impact on police officers and the organisation of work.

The presentations promise to be creative and thought-provoking, sparking a conversation that we continue afterward with drinks.
