About this event

  • Event lasts 22 days 3 hours

"Skye runs things with such warmth and generosity. It's wonderful to see and be a part of."

"I really came out of my comfort zone and you made the space so safe (I find the term ‘safe space’ so pretentious but it actually rang true for once) and relaxed and it felt like I could truly experiment and play."

"Be ready to completely lose control and challenge yourself, but don’t worry with Skye’s guidance you’re completely safe. I especially liked applying it to a written text and seeing how it came alive."

Skye’s practice focuses on two main aims: for her students to gain huge confidence and independence in Laban's work and crucially, a full understanding of how and where to apply it.

Rudolf von Laban was an extremely popular and prestigious practitioner of acting throughout the 20th century. For decades his work has inspired performers all over the world and his technique’s are as strongly present in the worlds of dance and drama as ever before.

Within this work actors are given a unique structure in which they are free to explore the full range of their characters physicality and, the never ending possibilities of their own.

Skye was trained by Katya Benjamin who has a wealth of experience teaching Laban. Katya has worked at many of the major drama schools and music colleges in London since 1986. She is the main tutor for Alexander Technique and LABAN at RADA and her work has inspired Skye to create her own teaching methods and approach to training actors in Laban's efforts.

In this class you will be going through all of the core elements of Laban technique; from breaking down how it works, to why actors use it and how to apply this technique to scenes, monologues and personal character prep work, so you feel confident to go into the industry and make the most out of this introduction.

This is a purely practical class, where you will learn through practising and honing Laban's efforts.

Skye currently teaches at LAMDA, RADA, Arts Ed and various other top drama schools and training programs. Skye is also on the BA, MFA and Foundation course audition panels at LAMDA.

There will be a lot of repetition of repetition!

Meisner’s work is like a gym for an actor, it helps you to flex all of your acting muscles so that you are raring to go when jumping into a scene/monologue.

The classes will be structured around one main goal, whether it be finding your confidence with emotional observation, understanding the 3 moments exercise or applying repetition to text and character, every session will aim for you to feel satisfied, having conquered the basics, ready to try the more advanced exercises.

There may be a small scene or monologue to prep prior to certain classes but lots of time will be given to do this prior to the sessions.

All actors are welcome, no prior Meiser experience necessary!
