About this event

This workshop is delivered by Robin Gray (Landscape & Woodland Design Advisor, Forestry Commission) and is intended for those engaged in woodland creation.

The morning session will summarise the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS) Landscape and Forests requirements and practice guidelines, focussing on their application through the woodland design process. Integrated design and its benefits for efficient working will be highlighted, as well as landscape context and putting woodland design principles into practice. The session will provide a detailed explanation of the design process outputs, including landscape character appraisal, landscape context analysis, site appraisal plans and design concept plans. These are key tools for the efficient delivery of UKFS compliant woodland design and the effective engagement with stakeholders.

The afternoon will involve a visit to a nearby site with a survey, analysis and design concept sketch exercise in groups. This will be followed by short, informal presentations and discussion.

A full programme with background reading will be supplied. Please come prepared for an outdoor site visit.
