Lantern Making Workshop 2026: St Matthew's Hall, Southborough - AFTERNOON SESSION Sat 17th January, 1.30pm - 3.30pm CREATE

Lantern Making Workshop 2026 St Matthew's Hall, Southborough - AFTERNOON SESSION

Saturday 17th January, 1.30pm - 3.30pm

Please note: This workshop will be taking place slightly down the road from St Matthew's Church at the St Matthew's Hall, 55 High Brooms Road, TN4 9DA.

CREATE are delighted to announce that Winter Lanterns 2026 will be going ahead in Tunbridge Wells!

The parade will be on Saturday 7th February starting at 5.30pm from 17 Calverley Road (outside the main entrance of Royal Victoria Place), parading down Camden Road with your wonderful lanterns and finishing at the Grosvenor and Hilbert Recreation Ground.

As with previous years, we will be holding lantern making workshops during the lead up to the parade. Admission to all of our workshops are free on the door, however we do ask participants reserving their place online to pay a small donation; this is to avoid the issue of people booking places and not turning up which has happened in previous years.

If you wish to make a lantern, we will have different lantern making packs to choose from on the day which will reflect the parade’s theme, ‘Monsters’. These will cost £5 (which can be paid for on the day of the workshop) and will vary in size and difficulty.

Each pack will contain all the things that you need to make a lantern, including an appropriate LED light and instruction and you can choose whether you would like to make the lantern at the workshop or take the pack home with you. All you will need is some PVA glue (which will be provided at the workshops) and lots of imagination to make a stunning lantern to show off in the parade!

Artists and CREATE volunteers will be on hand to help at all the workshops so fear not if this is your first time making a lantern and all proceeds from the packs will go towards the parade as well as helping to fund future community workshops.

  • Please ensure that everyone who is attending the workshop (participating or not) purchases a ticket for entry.

Places are limited and there will only be a small amount of tickets available on the door so be sure to book your ticket through Eventbrite to guarantee your place in the workshop and to avoid disappointment!
