This is to inform potential applicants about the LAP Water Discovery Pilot grant scheme and have the opportunity to ask any questions.

The Lowland Agricultural Peat Water Discovery Pilot (LAPWDP) grant scheme is intended to enable those land managers and others who are considering raising water levels within their lowland agricultural peat soils to explore what this means in practical terms, and then share this knowledge with others, whilst contributing to the Government’s net zero ambitions. Successful projects will support the development of costed management plans for raising water levels within peat soils. It is recognised that some farmers and landowners will wish to undertake a mixed land management regime that includes wetter farming, paludiculture, peat restoration and continued traditional farming. The LAPWDP webinar is an opportunity for potential applicants to hear more about the scheme and ask any questions you have. It will consist of two presentations and then a question-and-answer session. Firstly Katharine Birdsall, EA Senior Peat Advisor will explain the need for the scheme, the technical aspects and knowledge gaps the successful projects will help to address. Then Rob Boutle, EA Environment Portfolio Manager will detail eligibility and the application process. As well as answering as many questions as possible during the webinar, we will publish all the answers online. The webinar will be recorded, and a link circulated for those unable to attend on the day. As this workshop is for potential applicants it would be helpful if EA/NE/DEFRA staff could send their questions to lapwdp@environment-agency.gov.uk instead of asking at the webinar.This is an excellent opportunity for potential applicants to learn more about the LAPWDP grant scheme and ask questions, so we hope you will be able to join us.
