Learn how to use a laser cutter to cut and engrave designs with wood, acrylic and more!

This workshop is aimed at complete beginners, giving you the skills needed to start your own journey in laser cutting and engraving using our in-house equipment.


Laser cutting is a powerful and versatile process that can be used to produce a wide variety of creative and exciting makes.

On the day you will have the chance to use the machine to make your own lasered item, such as an engraved slate coaster or small box which you can customise with your own design.

We will cover:

  • Different materials that can be worked with
  • Tips on how to prepare designs ready for cutting or engraving
  • Useful software
  • How to operate the machine safely and effectively

This session is open to everyone, you do not need to be a makerspace member to attend.

The space has state of the art manual, digital and electronic equipment, skilled staff providing support and workshops, as well as space to create, invent, explore, learn, think and exhibit.
