Learn to Meditate in Half a Day with Ian McGlade

Learn to Meditate in Half a Day with Ian McGlade

Overview

A wonderful opportunity for anyone wanting to learn to meditate in the Buddhist Tradition. Suitable for Buddhists and non Buddhists alike.

One of our most popular and accessible workshops, Learn to Meditate in Half a Day offers a relaxing and inspiring introduction to meditation. Suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh their practice, this enjoyable session runs over the course of a weekend morning and is structured as follows:

  • Session One – Talk & Guided Meditation (1 hour 15 minutes)
  • Break (30 minutes – with refreshments)
  • Session Two – Talk & Guided Meditation (1 hour 15 minutes)

The workshop begins with practical advice on how to prepare for meditation, including posture and a gentle introduction to the first guided session. Meditation mats and cushions are provided for those who prefer to sit cross-legged, although most people choose to sit comfortably in chairs.

Rooted in the teachings of modern Kadampa Buddhism, this workshop focuses on the true purpose of meditation: to cultivate a calm and peaceful mind. Through gaining experience of meditation, we can begin to reduce negative states of mind and discover a natural source of happiness within.

During retreat you will:

  • Learn how to meditate effectively, even as a complete beginner
  • Understand the real benefits of meditation, both mental and physical
  • Explore how to apply meditation in daily life to reduce stress, worry, and frustration
  • Begin to recognise that inner peace is not something far away, but a natural state of our own mind that we can learn to access at any time

The teachings are presented in a clear and practical way, drawing on timeless wisdom for our busy modern lives.

Everyone is welcome. Retreat is suitable to those new to meditation as well as experienced practitioners. No special clothes are required and seating is provided in chairs and meditation cushions.
