About this event

First time session - For people who have never attended one of our sessions before.

Second session - For people who have attended our first time session and need more practice.


Course Description - First time session

This session teaches you the skills and confidence required to ride a bike with pedals independently.

You will learn how to:

· Mount

· Dismount

· Balance

· Steer

· Brake

· Pedal

The session will take place on Houghton Rectory Playing Field, Meeting point is the basketball net. What3word location:- https://w3w.co/bride.pools.grow

This is the field is between Houghton Rectory Park and Houghton Police Station (Houghton Feast Field). There is a free car park available (2 minute walk) at the top end of Rectory Park next to The Old Rectory DH4 4BB

How much does the course cost?

Free – Working alongside Cycling UK's Big Bike Revival, SnS Cycling in Houghton - le - Spring have organised these sessions for the people in the Sunderland area.

What age?

Our sessions are for anyone aged 5 years and older including adults.

Please note any participant under the age of 18 years only must be accompanied by an adult. Ideally one child per adult.

What equipment will I need to bring?

Your own bike and it must be in good working condition, this includes working brakes and inflated tyres.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

Yes, we require all participants to always bring and wear a suitable bike helmet during the courses.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing for the course. It should be suitable for the outdoor conditions on the day, warm gloves, flat shoes with the toes covered, A long sleeve top and soft trousers (e.g. jogging bottoms) are recommended for comfort. Skirts/dresses are not recommended.

Can I hire a bike?

We have a limited number of adult bikes available, please contact us if you need one before you attend the session.

Who is running the Session?

Local cycling company SnS Cycling CIC (www.facebook.com/SnSCycling). Their British Cycling coach Sara B will be teaching the course. Sara has spent many years teaching learn to ride a bike for Sustrans, local schools, Gateway Wheelers and Houghton Rectory Riders.
