Learn to weave with The Textile Reuse Hub resident weavers, Anisah Yaminah, Nowshin Prenon and Tanjina Begum using post-industry yarns at The Textile Reuse Hub.
Limited to 6 people.
Together participants will help to create a small piece using the design process of wrapping thread around a card or other materials such as wood to explore the interaction of colours.
Winding & Weaving Combined Workshop
The workshop will start with the winding process to create a stripe design inspired by a visual reference or painting. Participants will then use the stripe design as a guide to weave the correct order of colours in the frame loom to create a piece of cloth equivalent to a coaster size.
Participants will look at a painting for inspiration, extract colours, and use those to create the winding artwork that will follow on to weaving in the frame loom.
The woven cloth sample, inspired by the winding design, can later be used as a coaster or framed as an artwork. This process will give participants a deeper understanding of how winding informs weaving, and an introduction to the basic design concepts behind fabric creation.
In this two-hour workshop, learn more about the winding process to create a stripe design inspired by a visual reference or painting.
About the weavers leading the workshop
Weavers Anisah Yaminah, Nowshin Prenon and Tanjina Begum are currently on a weaving residency at The Textile Reuse Hub as part of the Sustainable Young Makers Programme. They have been working with post-industry yarns at The Textile Reuse Hub and a loom acquired with funding from the Mayor of London. They are all graduates of Central Saint Martin's Textile Design.
