<h1>Learning from Reigate Stone research</h1><h3>Opening barriers to the effective, cross disciplinary management of vulnerable historic masonry</h3><p>Reigate Stone is one of the most important historic building stones in London, and one that is frequently encountered by architects and stone conservators on account of its vulnerability. The understanding of vulnerable masonry can be hampered by terminological confusion, a lack of openly available and appropriately written information sources, and an absence of opportunities to meet and discuss stone conservation problems. </p><p>This event will  address knowledge transfer between academia and architectural conservation practice by providing a unique networking opportunity for researchers, practitioners and other interest groups in the Reigate Stone community.</p><ul><li>It will showcase current research and other relevant work, including the results of a 4-year partnership between Historic Royal Palaces (HRP), the University of Oxford, and Carden &amp; Godfrey Architects as part of the <a href="https://www.ucl.ac.uk/seaha-cdt/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SEAHA </a>programme.</li><li>It will explore ways of making research meaningful for practice and open dialogue for ongoing partnerships within the community.</li></ul><h2>Provisional Programme</h2><p>The symposium  is planned to be a hybrid event, with both in-person and virtual attendance (subject to regulations at the time). The full programme will be made available 2 weeks in advance of the symposium.</p><h3>Morning sessions</h3><p>Presentations on a range of topics relating to recent work on Reigate Stone, including a keynote presentation by Dr Martin Michette from the University of Oxford&#x27;s Resilient Buildings and Landscapes laboratory (<a href="https://www.oxrbl.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">OxRBL</a>), who will present findings from his DPhil research <em>Reigate Stone at the Tower of London: improving resilience in vulnerable historic masonry</em>.</p><h3>Afternoon sessions</h3><p>A series of participatory workshops introducing surveying techniques and experimental methods useful for Reigate Stone, and developing questions and frameworks for ongoing research.</p><p>The workshop list will be finalised following feedback from prospective attendees, in order to tailor the programme to needs and expectations.</p><p><strong>Coffee breaks and lunch will be provided.</strong></p>
