Increasing connectivity and the covid-19 pandemic has made more complex the already fluid and interconnected experience of (formal and informal) learning across and within diverse settings. These processes are transforming everyday learning spaces, such as home, and prompted us to rethink research methods that can grasp and trace mobilities within learning spaces and learners in motion. In this webinar, Professor Kevin Leander will be presenting preliminary findings from his current research on (re)configurations of learning spaces within the home. Additionally, Dr Paulina Ruiz-Cabello will present part of a literature review she is working on research methods to trace young people’s learning mobilities.

Kevin Leander is Director of Graduate Studies and Professor of Literacy Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt University. He is a renowned scholar and researcher in the areas of digital literacies, literacy and social space, affect theory, and multimodal and embodied learning. He is the editor, together with Christian Ehret, of the book “Affect in literacy learning and teaching: pedagogies, politics, and coming to know” (2019) from The Routledge “Expanding Literacies in Education” Series.

Paulina Ruiz-Cabello is an ESRC postdoctoral fellow in the School of Education at the University of Bristol. Her research has focused on understanding how young people’s mobile literacies and agency shape and are shaped by material and sociocultural space-time configurations of schooling and everyday life. Paulina has a background in media and youth studies and her current scholarly interests include participatory and creative methods, mobile and informal learning, and digital inequalities.
