Marx’s Capital Lecture Series: Volume 2

The Centre for the Study of Social and Global Justice (CSSGJ) is pleased to host a fresh series of public lectures on Marx’s Capital Volume 2: The Process of Circulation of Capital, given by the political economist and activist Andy Higginbottom.

We will use the Penguin (Fernbach) edition. The lectures will draw on the study guide produced by Ruy Mauro Marini and his comrades, that will be made available for the first time in English. The original study guide in Spanish is available here http://www.marini-escritos.unam.mx/pdf/288_economia_politica_3.pdf

The lecture series is accompanied by a weekly CSSGJ study group taking place on Wednesdays at 6.30pm (except in the weeks of the lecture). If that slot is not convenient, there will be another reading group meeting on Sundays at 9am (UK times). To join a group please email a.higginbottom@kingston.ac.uk for more details.

You will get the most from this course if you have already studied Capital Volume 1 comprehensively. A similar lecture series held by the CSSGJ on Volume 1 is available at https://cssgj.org/2022/01/13/marxs-capital-lecture-series/. We will proceed to Volume 3 starting in 2025.

The Volume 2 lectures will be monthly on Mondays at 6pm. They will be recorded and posted by CSSGJ. To register please go to Eventbrite […]

The Centre for the Study of Social and Global Justice (CSSGJ) is an independent research centre created to provide a focus for critically oriented education, teaching, and activism, in relation to the most fundamental question facing us as citizens of the world: how should we live? In other words, the CSSGJ was created as a space for critical reflection, education, and research in many different facets of social and global justice.

The CSSGJ is excited about the prospects of reaching a larger audience by exploiting the opportunities offered by the internet and being able to invite speakers from all around the world, without the financial constraints of having to pay for transport costs and hotels.

We will hold regular online events available to all, including speakers from various countries and continents – all focused on promoting social and global justice and peace through education.

Consonant with its commitment to social justice, CSSGJ ensures a great variety of speakers from different ethnic and gender backgrounds, as well as countries.

We hope to develop a space where those interested in progressive education and matters of social and global justice and peace can congregate online and overcome the barriers of physical distance between us.
