In the reading group session, we'll be discussing the issues raised by Joe Harkness in his excellent 2025 book, <a href="https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/neurodivergent-by-nature-9781399413367/" title="https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/neurodivergent-by-nature-9781399413367/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">"Neurodivergent, by Nature: Why Biodiversity Needs Neurodiversity"</a>. In the book, Harkness connects with a variety of other neurodivergent people to share their experiences in nature-related careers. If you can read the book, please do - but if you can't, please listen to this 54-minute interview with Harkness from the <a href="https://shows.acast.com/wild-about-wellbeing/episodes/community-and-access-joe-harkness-and-neurodivergent-by-natu" title="https://shows.acast.com/wild-about-wellbeing/episodes/community-and-access-joe-harkness-and-neurodivergent-by-natu" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Wildlife Trusts' "Wild About Wellbeing" podcast</a>, in which many of the main points are discussed. Among the questions we might address are... What do we mean by "<a href="https://www.keepingwellnwl.nhs.uk/self-help-resources/equality-diversity-and-inclusion/neurodiversity" title="https://www.keepingwellnwl.nhs.uk/self-help-resources/equality-diversity-and-inclusion/neurodiversity" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">neurodiversity</a>"? What are the connections between neurodivergence and nature? What "reasonable adjustments" could/should be made in workplaces to empower neurodivergent people to flourish in green careers? To help to address this last question we'll use the measures advocated in chapter 9 of the book. Even if you don't get a chance to listen to the podcast, the issues will be summarised at the start of the session, so do come along anyway! All are welcome to listen and contribute. Please note: This will be a respectful space to discuss potentially sensitive issues. There will be no pressure at all for anyone to reveal any condition if they don't wish to declare it.
