Let Us Spring Free: The Erotic Review Issue 3 Berlin Launch

Join us at Shakespeare and Sons to celebrate the launch of the Erotic Review's third issue, with readings and conversation, ft. editors Lucy Roeber and Saskia Vogel, and contributors author Irati Elorrieta, translator Katharine Halls (reading Halil Chouman), and poet Timimie Gassko Märak. Irati Elorrieta was born in a coastal village in the Basque Country in 1979. She is a writer in the Basque language and lives in Berlin. She published her short story-novel Bubbles (Alberdania) in 2011, two years after the Basque original Burbuilak (Alberdania). She has translated works by Rotraut Susanne Berner and Daniel Glattauer from German into Basque and has collaborated as a columnist in print media. The novel Neguko argiak (Pamiela) was the winner of the Euskadi Prize for Literature in 2019; it was published in 2021 in Spanish by Galaxia Gutenberg as Luces de invierno (Winter lights).

Katharine Halls is an Arabic-to-English translator from Cardiff, Wales. Her critically acclaimed translation of Ahmed Naji’s prison memoir Rotten Evidence was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for autobiography, she was awarded a 2021 PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant for her translation of Haytham El-Wardany’s Things That Can’t Be Fixed and her translation, with Adam Talib, of Raja Alem’s The Dove’s Necklace received the 2017 Sheikh Hamad Award. Her work has appeared in Frieze, The Kenyon Review, The Believer, McSweeney's, The Common, Asymptote, and others. She is one third of teneleven, an agency for contemporary Arabic literature.Timimie Gassko Märak was born in Sweden in 1991, is a poet and sami queer activist. In 2022, they took part in the project ‘Čatnosat. The Sámi Pavilion, Indigenous Art, Knowledge and Sovereignty’. Märak is a founding member of the collective ‘Hásstuheaddji’, a Sami think tank that brings together thinkers, performers, and artists for dialogue and exchange.

Lucy Roeber is a writer, editor and director of the Erotic Review, relaunched in March 2024. Her work has been published in the Guardian, the Real Review, The Sunday Times and the TLS and she’s currently commissioned to write fiction for Lickerish Library.

Saskia Vogel is the deputy editor of the Erotic Review. She is also an award-winning author and translator of over two-dozen books from the Swedish language. Permission, her debut novel, has been translated into six languages. She was Princeton University’s Fall 2022 Translator in Residence, a finalist for the 2021 PEN Translation Prize and the 2024 National Book Award. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she now lives in Berlin.
