A lovely workshop to help get you started growing your own vegies however small or large your garden is.

This wokshop will help get you started growing your own vegies however small or large your garden is. Aimed at new veg gardeners and those who want to recap and get to grips with spring tasks. he workshop is part of the Open Gate Festival and is orgnaised by the Heathiest Town.

Gardening is good for your health and growing your own food can be lots of fun and certainly tasty. Its easier than you think. Much advise available is focused on Southern England’s climate, but we live in Scotland were elevation, climate and sun direction have a big impact on what we can do.

· Planning - choosing crop varieties, tools and equipment

· Were to plant – shady areas, boarders, beds, microclimates, frost pockets, wind funnels hot spots , raised beds and pots

· Ways to grow – catch cropping, successional sowing, crop rotation, companion planting

· Spring tasks – it’s not too late to get started

· How to grow from seed and maximising your harvest

The helping hand - earth worms, ladybirds, Bees, thinking about slugs, controlling disease and pests and environmental problems
