The Staff Pride Network is an inclusive network that serves as a resource for the rich diversity of LGBT+ employees across the institution, including PhD students who prefer to attend staff events.We strive to take an intersectional approach to providing a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for all people who self identify as part of LGBT+ communities, whether or not they are 'out' in the wider world, and to make LGBT+ issues more visible within the University environment.Different organisations use different acronyms to refer to specific groups, and terminology is always evolving. Our definition of LGBT+ includes, among others, those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, gender fluid, intersex, non-binary, asexual, pansexual and polyamorous. It also includes all those individuals and communities whose sexuality or gender identity is a matter of shared personal, political and/or social experience, as well as those who are LGBT+ allies.SAFE SPACEWe welcome all those who self identify as part of LGBT+ communities, regardless of identity or background, and provide a space where all can feel safe and included. We do not support or tolerate anti-LGBT+ violence, harassment or speech, and encourage inclusive and respectful language. Staff Pride Network

University of Edinburgh Staff Pride Network present a special panel event on intersectionality, to mark the end of our programme of events celebrating LGBT History Month.
Intersectionality is defined as the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.
At this event we will hear from a panel of guest speakers from academia and business, exploring the issue of intersectionality, what it means to them, and what effect it has on their lives. The panel will then open to discussion and questions from the audience. It gives us great pleasure to welcome the following panellists to the event.
Delwar Hussain is a social anthropologist specialising in the history, politics and anthropology of South Asia, as well as issues around religion, gender, cities, sexuality and tolerance.
Nathan Gale is a trans, queer, crip activist, artist, and lawyer. Their current activism mainly takes the form of being out as non-binary in their role as a criminal lawyer, in an environment that screams ‘you don't belong here!’
Billy Lee is a psychology lecturer interested in personal experience, communication, and identity. His research investigates "lived experience" and how personal histories, bodies, culture, and existential situation influence how we experience ourselves and other people, and how we interpret, avoid and express feeling and being. Billy's  current projects include i) therapeutic listening and communication; ii) life transitions and identity development; iii) and emotional communication and perception.

My research investigates "lived experience". I am interested in how our personal histories, bodies, culture, and existential situation influence how we experience ourselves and other people, and how we interpret, avoid and express feeling and being. I use Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis to conduct experience-near interviews with special populations. My current projects include i) therapeutic listening and communication; ii) life transitions and identity development; iii) and emotional communication and perception.
