We're the charity who look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways, because we believe that life is better by water.Our research shows that spending time by water, whether it be your lunchbreak, daily commute or just a weekend stroll, really can make us feel happier and healthier.With ever increasing rates of obesity, stress and declining mental health in the UK, we are uniquely placed to make a significant contribution to improving the wellbeing of millions of people. Our canals and rivers run through some of the most heavily populated communities in England and Wales, providing accessible green and blue space where it’s needed the most.That’s why, here at the Trust, we're working with volunteers and communities across England and Wales to transform canals and rivers into spaces where local people want to spend time and feel better. We know this will bring wellbeing opportunities to millions.Our work involves not only looking after our waterways, but promoting them widely to the eight million plus people who have waterways on their doorstep so that many more people benefit from our free, accessible and local source of wellbeing.We have a range of events which you will be able to take part in around your local waterways.

Discover your happy place at a canal near you!Our walks provide opportunities to enjoy the beauty of canals and rivers on your doorstep. Why not come along and walk, get healthy and make new friends on one of our guided walks . Canals and rivers are the perfect places to boost your mood and improve your physical and mental health. Even in busy towns and cities, they provide special spaces where you can relax, recharge, and get your body moving. You may even learn a bit of history or see some awesome wildlife!W﻿e have 3 different walks available - Mountsorrel, Barrow Upon Soar &amp; Cossington.M﻿ountsorrel - Currently on holdThis walk will cover approx. 2 miles and will last for around 60-80 minutes. We will meet up outside the library at the bottom of the green. Please arrive in good time to allow for parking. We go at a gentle pace suitable for everyone. At the end of the walk, you can choose to join the walk leader for a drink at a local café or pub (please remember to bring money for any purchases).Cossington - 14th NovemberWe will meet at <a href="https://goo.gl/maps/J4QQKhTMisyVC35u9" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cossington Lock 48</a> which is just by the bridge on Cossington Lane. This walk will cover approx. 4-5 miles and will last for around 90 minutes. This walk will go at a slightly faster pace. At the end of the walk, you can choose to join the walk leader for a drink at the local garden centre if it is still open (please remember to bring money for any purchases).Click <a href="https://goo.gl/maps/K2SQBBQoNks2HhdV9" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here </a>for parking, or there is parking further down in a layby.B﻿arrow Upon Soar - 21st NovemberThis walk will cover approx. 3 miles and will last for around 90 minutes. We will meet up at the Moorings pub. We go at a gentle pace suitable for everyone. At the end of the walk, you can choose to join the walk leader for a drink at a local café or pub (please remember to bring money for any purchases).Points to note:<ul><li>Ages 18 and over only.</li><li>We can only take people on the walk who have booked a place.</li><li>No dogs.</li><li>Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before the start time.</li><li>If you book and then can’t come, please cancel your place via Eventbrite or reply to an email you received about the event. This frees up the place for another person.</li><li>Unsurfaced, rural towpaths in places with possible﻿ stiles to step over and footbridges to walk over</li><li>As the walks continue, we will look to extend routes, depending on the group ability</li></ul>If you would like to arrange a private group walk, please email kelly.alcock@canalrivertrust.org.ukThis event is free for all participants who attend on the day. However, if you have booked on, and your circumstances do suddenly change and you find you are no longer able to attend, you must cancel using one of the methods below1 )The preferred method is via the Eventbrite ticket booking system using the link that you can find on your ticket. This can be found at the bottom of your ticket and has a link directly to “cancel my ticket”.2 ) By email eventbrite.eastmidlands@canalrivertrust.org.uk giving details of date, time, venue and participants in your email message. We ask for your co-operation in this matter. This will allow others who would otherwise have regrettably missed out due to lack of space, the opportunity to attend this event.COVID-19 compliance 2021: if you or a person in your support bubble have any symptoms of COVID-19 please do not attend the event.We make the events as safe and fun as possible under the current circumstancesWalk ins may be accepted on the day but we will still need to to book on. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket via Eventbrite or please get in touch with us to allow another person(s) a chance to take part. .
