About this event

The workshop will enable participants to typeset and print, using the Adana press and to make concertina books.

Basic letterpress printing will be explained in the context of fine art practice and the genre of artists’ books.

Who is the course for?

Those who are interested to learn the basic principles of letterpress in the context of fine art printing practice and who want to know more about constructing artists’ books.

What will you make?

All participants will print pages which they can take away, displayed or incorporated

into artists’ books.

What will I need to bring?

All materials and equipment will be provided.

Please wear old clothes as things can get messy. Aprons will be provided.

You may want to bring a packed lunch and your own water bottle. Teas and coffees are provided.

Participants are encouraged to bring with them, one or two sentences

About the tutor

Andrew Gale’s fine art practice includes drawing, mixed media and printmaking (including letterpress), inspired mainly by the natural and built environment. His current work in progress is a series entitled, Songs from the Landscape. This explores traces in the landscape – particularly Kinder Scout and environs. He has exhibited work in the UK for a number of years and recently, since 2021, in Chicago, He holds a Foundation Degree, in Creative Art and Design Practice from the University of Derby and a BA in Fine Art from Sheffield Hallam University.

About Carousel Print Studio

Carousel Print Studio is a not for profit charity based on the ground floor of Yorkshire Art Space, Exchange Place Studios in Castlegate.

Carousel provides educational workshops in printmaking and access to printmaking equipment and facilities for creatives in Sheffield, in a bright, warm, accessible and well equipped printmaking studio. We are a non toxic studio.

Carousel is located on the ground floor just to the left of reception. The doors are widened for ease of access and there is an accessible toilet. If you have any questions regarding access needs please do contact us at print@carouselprintstudio.com
