About this event

We are excited to be partnering with Zoë Boyd from Bent Collective to run a series of self defence sessions. Each set will run for 6 sessions and follow this plan:

  • Session one: Stance, grabs and clinching
  • Session two: Intro to striking
  • Session three: Takedowns and basic wrestling
  • Session four: Ground control and standing up
  • Session five: Chokes and choke defence
  • Session six: The guard and defending from your back

Zoë is a self-defence instructor and a martial artist with over 12 years' experience in combat sports. She began teaching self-defence classes after realising how many instructors were ex-police or ex-military, and how that had given them a perspective on violence that didn't match her lived experience. She teaches a more compassionate form of self-defence, tailored to marginalised people, and backed up by research and data. She is also a professional wrestler and enjoys pretending to fight people as much as the real thing!
