About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

The Channel Islands saw many landings from the newly formed Commandos, including men with local connections in the ranks. Churchill’s orders were to set Europe ablaze, whilst gathering key information about enemy soldiers on British soil. A unique combination of harassing the enemy and understanding their strengths and weaknesses. In this presentation we will explore all the Commando Raids across the islands during World War Two, why we were so popular, and the far-reaching consequences which had repercussions after the war and into the Court Rooms and condemned cells of Nurnberg.

Chris Oliver is a well known speaker on Military History around the islands. He has made several programmes for the BBC, Wildfire Productions, Channel 4 and ITV. He is a guest lecturer at Sandhurst and Cambridge University. Chris is co-founder & Chairman of the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry.
