This National Windrush Day, step into the vibrant world of the Caribbean right here in Devon at our Library Lates: Windrush event! Join us on the 22nd of June from 6 pm to 9:30 pm as we celebrate the rich tapestry of culture and heritage brought by the Windrush generations, both locally and nationally.Produced by Devon Development Education, this free cultural takeover of the Library welcomes families and individuals of all ages to immerse themselves in a myriad of activities Lenticular craft The perfect craft activity for all ages. Come and make a Windrush lenticular! Farewell Jamaica We are so pleased to have the excerpts from the play Farewell Jamaica sharing with us the story of one man and his experiences of arriving and living in England Banner making Help us to create a lovely colourful Devon Windrush Banner that we can all join in and sew together! Caribbean dance workshop Meet the awesome Ros from Martinique who will lead us through some Caribbean dances that also have their roots in African dancing, get those hips ready! <a href="https://www.rainbowsteel.co.uk/music" title="https://www.rainbowsteel.co.uk/music" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rainbow Steel Pan band</a> We are so excited to have members of this band coming along to play for us. Formed in the 1950s this band has an incredible &amp; rich history <a href="https://www.sominsomatic.com/" title="https://www.sominsomatic.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dj Somatic</a> This mixed heritage community minded DJ has been with us for all the DDE Windrush celebrations so far, and is sure to get us all jumping n grooving!Plus family storytelling sessions, exhibitions, poetry, "Not Just Rice &amp; Peas" cooking videos, and more!

This is a free event, but booking is essential. Suitable for all ages. There will be a bar with soft and alcoholic drinks available. We won't have food to purchase, but you're welcome to bring your own to eat in the cafe area.Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate, learn, and connect with the heritage of Windrush in Devon.
